State Bank of India

Public sector bank — Nariman Point, Mumbai. Since 1955.

State Bank of India is the largest bank in the country, descended from the Bank of Calcutta of 1806 through the Imperial Bank of India, and constituted in its present form in 1955. Its corporate centre is State Bank Bhavan at Nariman Point, with further corporate offices in Bandra Kurla Complex; the bank is majority-owned by the Government of India and serves more customers than any other bank in India.

SBI does everything a universal bank does — retail deposits and loans, SME and corporate banking, trade finance, treasury, NRI services and priority-sector lending — and its subsidiaries SBI Life, SBI Funds Management and SBI Cards are Mumbai companies in their own right.
