Spices and Dry Fruits at Masjid Bunder

The dry fruit and dates market of the city, with the Mumbai Dryfruits & Dates Merchants Association based here; also spices, paper and stationery on Abdul Rehman Street, plastics and packaging, and hardware. Most of India’s imported dry fruit lands here first.

Masjid Bunder is where India’s imported dry fruit lands: almonds from California, pista from Iran, dates from the Gulf, walnuts, cashew, anjeer and kesar, in a wholesale market run by the Mumbai Dryfruits & Dates Merchants Association. Retail counters exist, but the business is in sacks and cartons, and the prices the rest of the city quotes are set here.

Few of the houses have an editorial record under their own name — they sell to the trade, not the public. The association publishes its member list; the firms below are the ones with a public record we could verify.
