Film City, named for Dadasaheb Phalke and run by the Maharashtra Film, Stage and Cultural Development Corporation, is the 520-acre studio complex at Goregaon East beside the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, opened in 1977. It has sixteen studio floors, outdoor locations — lakes, temples, village sets, a helipad — and permanent sets for the television serials shot here daily.
Most Hindi television and a large share of films are shot inside Film City; guided tours run for visitors.
