Juhu is the beach: the long chowpatty where the city eats bhel and pav bhaji on the sand in the evening, the Ganpati visarjan crowds, and the hotels — the JW Marriott, the Sun-n-Sand, Novotel — along it. Behind the beach are the bungalows of the film industry, from the Kapoors onward, Prithvi Theatre, the ISKCON temple, and the Juhu Scheme and JVPD streets that are the most expensive in the western suburbs.
Juhu aerodrome, India’s first civil airfield, opened here in 1928 and is still used for helicopters and general aviation.
