Nariman Point was the financial district of India from the 1970s until BKC took the role: Air India, the Oberoi, the Express Towers and the rest of the first generation of Mumbai high-rises stand on this last piece of the Backbay Reclamation. The National Centre for the Performing Arts is at the tip.
Many of the head offices have moved north, but the law firms, the consulates and the state secretariat (Mantralaya) are still here, and the evening walk from Marine Drive ends at this point.
