About Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus
A UNESCO World Heritage building and the headquarters of Central Railway. Still a working terminus, not a monument.
Completed in 1888 as Victoria Terminus, to F. W. Stevens’s design, and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. It is the headquarters of Central Railway and one of the busiest railway stations in India.
It is a working terminus before it is a monument: long-distance trains from one set of platforms, suburban services from the other, and several hundred thousand people through it every day. The facade is best seen from the far side of the road in the evening, when it is lit.
