About Mumbai Samachar
India’s oldest continuously published newspaper, Gujarati, still produced from the red building on the circle.
Started in 1822 as Bombay Samachar, it is the oldest continuously published newspaper in India and one of the oldest in Asia. It has been published in Gujarati throughout, which says something about who ran the city’s commerce.
The red building on Horniman Circle has housed it for well over a century. It is an office, not a visitor attraction, but the building is part of the circle’s character.
