About Reserve Bank of India
India’s central bank. The central office stands behind the Town Hall; monetary policy for the country is set from this street.
The RBI was constituted in 1935 and has had its central office in Mumbai since 1937. Monetary policy, the repo rate, banknote issue and the regulation of every bank in the country are decided from this address, which is why the financial press keeps a permanent watch on Mint Road.
The Reserve Bank Monetary Museum, in the Amar Building nearby, is open to the public and holds Indian coinage and paper money from punch-marked coins onwards. The main building itself is not open to visitors.
