About Western Naval Command
The Navy holds much of the southern tip. Large areas are closed, which is why Colaba has stayed low-rise while the rest of the city went up.
The Indian Navy’s Western Naval Command is headquartered at Mumbai and holds a large part of the southern tip, including Navy Nagar and the dockyard. Much of it is restricted.
This matters for understanding Colaba: the Navy’s land is the reason the end of the peninsula stayed low-rise, green and relatively quiet while the rest of the city built upwards.
