Fruit and Vegetables at Vashi APMC Market

The regulated wholesale market for the city, moved out of the island to Navi Mumbai: separate yards for fruit, vegetables, onion and potato, grain, and masala and dry fruit. The Alphonso season from Devgad and Ratnagiri is run from here, and the mandi rates quoted in the papers are APMC Vashi rates.

APMC Vashi is the regulated wholesale market: produce comes in by truck overnight, is auctioned through licensed commission agents from the early hours, and goes out to every retail market in the city by morning. The fruit yard runs the Alphonso season — the first Devgad and Ratnagiri boxes arrive in March — and the vegetable and onion-potato yards set the rates the papers quote.

The trade is in licensed agents, not shops with public names; the market’s own notice board and the daily rate sheet are the directory.
