Fruit and Vegetables at Dadar Market

Retail, not wholesale: the flower market under the railway bridge before dawn, the vegetable and fish markets, Ranade Road for clothing and footwear, and a run of saree houses around Kabutarkhana and Kelkar Marg that the whole of Marathi Mumbai shops at for weddings.

Dadar’s produce trade is the city’s most visible: the wholesale flower market under the railway bridge works from about three in the morning and is finished by seven; the vegetable market beside it runs retail and semi-wholesale through the morning; the fish market is one of the main retail fish markets in Mumbai. None of it is in named shops — it is stall by stall, and the way in is to go early and walk.
