Dadar’s cloth trade is retail and it is sarees: a run of family-owned saree houses around Kabutarkhana, Kelkar Marg and Ranade Road, several of them more than fifty years old, that the whole of Marathi Mumbai comes to for Paithani, Banarasi and the nine-yard navvari. Cheaper than South Mumbai, with more choice in Maharashtrian weaves than anywhere else in the city.
