Panshikar is a pure vegetarian Maharashtrian counter in Dadar West, of the kind the 1899 Improvement Trust suburb produced and then kept. The order here is piyush — the thick, cardamom-scented shrikhand drink — with kothimbir vadi, sabudana vada and batata vada, and a sweet counter at the front.
It is a stand-and-eat shop rather than a restaurant: you pay first, you eat standing, and you leave. That is the Dadar pattern, and it is the reason these shops have survived while larger restaurants around them have not.
