This is the mill belt, rebuilt. The cotton mills that made the city stood at Parel, Lower Parel and Worli; their compounds are now offices, malls and restaurant floors. Dadar and Matunga stayed residential and kept their own food — Maharashtrian at Dadar, South Indian at Matunga — both older than anything at Lower Parel and, most days, better.
