Andheri East is the working side of Andheri: the airport and the hotel belt at Sahar; SEEPZ, the export zone set up in 1973 that produces a large share of India’s jewellery exports; the MIDC industrial estate and Marol; the Chakala and Western Express Highway office towers; and the Mahakali Caves, which were here two thousand years before any of it.
Metro Line 1 runs across it from Ghatkopar to Versova, and the Metro to the airport has changed how the east side connects to the rest of the city.
